unossc renewed mou with inse

content introduction：
on june 1st, 2018, mr. jorge chediek, envoy of united nations secretary-general on south-south cooperation and director of united nations office for south-south cooperation (unossc), visited peking university and delivered a lecture titled “south-south cooperation and the united nations”, as well as renewed, on behalf of unossc, the memorandum of understanding with the institute of new structural economics (inse) at peking university.
prof. justin yifu lin, dean of inse and institute of south-south cooperation and development (isscad), prof. yang yao, dean of national school of development and executive dean of isscad, prof. jun fu, academic dean of isscad, dr. jia yu, director of international development cooperation at inse, dr. yanchao li, international think-tank researcher at inse, etc. attended the meeting.
mr. jorge chediek was nominated as the director of the united nations office for south-south cooperation since october 2015, leading united nations system-wide promotion and coordination of south-south cooperation for development, and was appointed by the united nations secretary-general as his envoy on south-south cooperation since march 2016.
in his speech, mr. chediek pointed out that the experience of western developed countries is not necessarily applicable to developing countries in the south whose development starts relatively late from a lower level. while faced with similar stages of status, developing countries could share and learn from each other’s experiences in economic growth and development to other to boost economic growth, which was advocated and complemented by prof. justin yifu lin in comments.

at the end of the meeting, prof. justin yifu lin, on behalf of inse, and mr. chediek, on behalf of unossc, renewed memorandum of understanding which was initially signed in 2016. both parties agreed to maintain cooperation in the following areas of activity:

strengthening the global research consortium on economic structural transformation (grecest), which aims to advance frontier research and practices on economic structural transformation.

strengthening and expanding the global coalition of think tank networks for south-south cooperation.

engaging in other knowledge generation and sharing activities; jointly develop and deliver training on areas of mutual expertise and interest for targeted groups including youth and government officials.

disseminating research results through international forums co-organized by the parties or in collaboration with other international institutions, or through publications.

collaborating in mobilizing partnerships and human and financial resources to conduct joint activities in support of economic transformation and innovative solutions to accelerating the sdg agenda.
